If you need something in the field or if you’re an EMT with only so much room in an ambulance, then you’ll want a portable EKG machine. There are many different types from handheld versions to ones that hook directly to a laptop.

When it comes to prices, portable EKG machines can be less because they don’t have everything standard EKG machines do. If you want a small handheld model, then it can cost about $500, but a laptop connected EKG cost about $1000-$2000.

Other types of portable EKG machines cost about $1000-$3000 depending on their complexity.

Specialized EKG Machines

Most small hospitals and doctor’s offices are fine with standard EKG machines. They’re used in emergency rooms to help diagnose cardiac problems, but there are higher end EKGs used by cardiac specialists and others.

This includes wireless models that don’t require lead wires. One of the biggest problems is replacing lead wires because they get pulled out with movement. Wireless models don’t have that problem.

If you want a machine with all the bells and whistles, then they can cost between $6,000 and $12,000.

EKG Accessories Cost Money Too

While the machines have a set cost, don’t forget about any accessories you need with it. If it’s a new machine for the department, then you’ll need a cart to wheel it around. How much EKG paper do you have? It’s probably not enough.
